Mr. Bennett messed up his Prozac dosage today, so don't mind him. Humor is such a delightful way to celebrate being human. Being new in Japan I find myself stumbling over custom curbs every day. It is nice to stumble upon a site where I can laugh at myself and the world around me.

You truly are an American in every sense of the word. What you claim to be funny is just steretypical american trash. You are someone who is unable to see any other country for what it is because you are too caught up in your american ideals, whatever those may be. congratulations on once again giving americans a wonderful representative abroad.

Hi, I'm a teacher at a school in Sydney called Balgowlah North. I was searching websites for a suitable one for my children to look at and found yours'. Please feel free to look at our website. Your website is great. Maybe we could get children to email each other if your Year 3 (8 year olds) speak English? We are learning Japanese with a Japanese teacher. A few years ago I was invited to Japan as an elite Triathlete to compete in your country. It was a fantastic experience and I enjoyed your culture and friendship shown by the Japanese people. It's Easter here so Happy Easter from Sydney Maureen Cummings

Hmmmmm... I wonder if Diana the Registered Nurse needs a hug? That letter she wrote to you was pretty uncalled for. Diana, there is already enough racism and tension created by misunderstanding in the world that we do not need you to fabricate more. At any rate, I'm pretty certain that I can speak for others when I say that 99.999% of the folks out there, Japanese and American, enjoy reading your column Amy!!!

Amy, I enjoy your columns very much. My son is an officer in the Navy stationed at Yokosuka. I've been to Japan twice to visit him & his Japanese wife. The Santa Claus column was hilarious. And yes, it is amazing that they don't have central heating there. On my first visit, my son lived off-base & I had to stay in bed to keep warm. Now they live in a nice apartment on base with heat & a/c & other American conveniences such as garbage disposals & dishwashers. Japan is an endlessly fascinating country.

Just finished reading the "Heat" column. It brought back lots of memories from when I lived Aomori Prefecture. My last winter there is snowed over 200 inches. My house was so cold that you would have to sleep with your shampoo and toothpaste if you didn't want them to be frozen by the morning. The weirdest thing was, while I was freezing my ass off, my Japanese friends thought not having heat in a house was perfectly normal! Amy, keep up the entertaining work!

Hi, Amy Chan, thanks for your sunshine columns. I live with my German husband in an area called the TIBET of Okayama Prefecture (way out in the mountains) and I can share a lot of your feelings of living the LOCAL life! Humer is a good doctor curing the daily misunderstandings and happenings in a foreign sourrounding. After 15 years in Kamakura, I thought I could anticipate what it was going to be in the Countryside, but NO WAY. This here is pure Edo-Times (as a Japanese friend put it: Not Edo-times, this is purr Muromachi-Times.) So I am still trying to figure out the doos and donts (okitte) of our area and your Island Insights are quite helpful.Good Luck and Good Life!Gabi

Hello Amy,The columns get better and better everyday. I wonder how you can generate all this humor week after week on a sole topic. Your head must be a powerhouse of sorts. What would we do if we did not have Japan Lite. You are undoubtedly one of the funniest columnists on Japan that I have come accross. I look forward to your columns every week. How about writing something about Japanese crimes someday? Anywa, you are doing very good job. HSL HSL. Hahaha.
