Shiraishi
Island is the setting for 'Japan Lite' and is located in Japan's
Seto Inland Sea. The island is well-known for the Shiraishi Dance (shown at right), danced by the locals in traditional costume during the yearly "Obon" festival of the dead. The population
of the island is around 800. Shiraishi
Island is the third in an arpechalago of islands in Okayama prefecture,
off Japan's main island of Honshu. Shiraishi is 17km from the mainland
and is accessed by ferry from Kasaoka port in Kasaoka city.
